FEATURED
PROJECTS

Silvestrum team has a long history of collaboration that extends well beyond the tenure of the firm, with posts in Africa and Latin America. Together, we address the challenges of climate change by nurturing sustainable development that is grounded in science, equity, and transparency.

Leah Glass

Indus Delta Mangroves, Pakistan

Silvestrum provided advisory services for the structuring of the Indus Delta Mangroves Project, covering over 600,000 hectares of tidal wetland in Pakistan’s Indus Delta, to ensure compliance with Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) requirements. It is the largest blue carbon project globally.

The project removes greenhouse gases from the atmosphere since 2015 by planting more than 500,000 hectares of mangroves. As part of the entire effort it also protects almost 100,000 hectares of remaining mangrove forest, thought close collaboration with the government and local communities.

VCS methodology development

Silvestrum has been involved in the development of various carbon accounting methodologies, including for reforestation and forest conservation, peatland restoration and conservation. We are the lead author of Verra’s dedicated blue carbon methodology and continuously updating this methodology to align with new science and new methods, eventually including all relevant aspects of ARR, REDD and IFM.

Silvestrum is also supporting the development of methodologies for seaweed farming and avoided bottom trawling, making these activities eligible to receive carbon credits and advancing the carbon market for marine ecosystems.

Agreena Carbon Project

The Agreena Carbon Project is Europe's largest soil carbon program. It provides a framework to help farmers transition to and seek compensation for regenerative farming practices that sequester carbon in agricultural soils and reduce GHG emissions. Silvestrum provided technical guidance to support the development and registration of the project, ensuring compliance with the VCS standard and methodologic regulations.

Blue carbon NDC support

Silvestrum assists countries in setting and advancing their blue carbon protection commitments. Our work includes assessing institutional frameworks, identifying key stakeholders, and evaluating progress on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), helping nations bridge gaps and leverage their strengths.
For example, we advised Mozambique to update their 2025 NDC.

Blue Carbon Readiness Framework

In collaboration with the World Bank, Silvestrum developed the "Blue Carbon Investment Readiness Framework," a practical guide designed to help governments scale up blue carbon finance and drive impactful, community-centered projects. The framework offers step-by-step guidance and checklists, enabling countries to assess their capacity to attract and leverage blue carbon investments in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

NOAA Blue Carbon Inventory Project

Silvestrum’s team has collaborated with NOAA to support the tracking and reporting of coastal blue carbon in national inventories for both the United States and Costa Rica. Through this partnership, we aim to enhance the integration of blue carbon ecosystems into national greenhouse gas inventories, an important step towards meeting the Paris Agreement, while providing critical data for better climate change mitigation efforts and policy development.
